The University of Tennessee at Martin was one of 59 NCAA Division I universities to earn the Golf Coaches Association of America Outstanding Team Academic Presidents Special Recognition Award for the 2023-24 campaign, the organization announced today.

This news comes on the heels of last week’s announcement that the Skyhawks were one of only 25 NCAA Division I institutions to place at least five members on the Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars list. This announcement also marks the fourth such award for the UT Martin program, who also nabbed this prestigious recognition in 2017-18, 2019-20 and 2020-21.

UT Martin and SIUE were the only two Ohio Valley Conference schools to bring home the Presidents Special Recognition Award, which recognizes at least a 3.5 team Grade Point Average. The Skyhawks are one of just four schools in Tennessee to claim this accolade, joining Belmont, Lipscomb and Vanderbilt.

As a team, nine UT Martin golfers combined for a 3.55 team GPA in 2023-24, sporting a 3.41 GPA during the fall and a 3.69 GPA in the spring semester. Jonathan Xoinis was responsible for a perfect 4.0 GPA throughout the academic year while Dax Isbell (fall), Jacob Uehlein (fall), Ethan Ray (spring) and Jackson Twerdahl (spring) each accounted for 4.0 GPA’s during one semester.
