The Weakley County Commission approved the sale of the Weakley County Nursing Home in the amount of $10,400,000 with a repair and improvement credit totaling 1.9 million making the net price sale a total of 8.5 million dollars.

The cost report escrow deposit was for 1 million and the brokerage commission was for $340,000 with seller closing costs to be determined. The net proceeds received by the county at closing will be $7,160,000 minus selling closing costs.

The nursing home board is required to continue to operate the nursing home in good faith until closing as a provision of the contract which totals 100 pages and can be viewed at the Courthouse by any person wanting to look at it. The nursing home board voted unanimously in Finance, Ways and Means for the sale to go through.

“After careful contemplation and consideration of the economic needs of the County, recent legislative changes and the needs of the patients and citizens, the County Commission believes it is paramount to the sustainability and continuity of patient care in Weakley County and in the best interests of the citizens for the future management and ownership of the current facility to be conveyed to an appropriate healthcare provider with experience and knowledge specific to these medical area,” the resolution states.

The County reviewed several purchase proposals and negotiated a purchase and sale agreement with Weakley Propco, LLC, the buyer, and operations transfer agreement with Weakley Healthcare LLC, the new operator of the facility.

Weakley County Schools put forth a resolution for the funding of the local portion of their E-Rate project to upgrade internet cabling and access points. $150,000 was requested to be moved from the fund balance to cover the 20% match for the project to re-do the network in the County’s high schools, however, the board voted no due to concerns that the project wasn’t put out for bids. More investigation will be done by the school on the E-Rate Grant, match and bidding process before it comes to the Commission.
