2025 Schedule Outlook: Westview Football

Posted

With the athletic dead period in full effect, what better time is there than now to get to know the Westview Chargers’ opponents for the 2025 season? This year introduces some unfamiliar foes in the non-region portion of their schedule, a restructured region, and only nine games for the time being. Let’s take a deep dive.

Week 1 vs. MASE (8/22/2025): The Chargers welcome in the reigning state champions in Division 1A to start their season. The Phoenix started last season with a blowout loss to Lausanne but then proceeded to run the table with 13 straight wins en route to a state title. The MASE defense forced a shutout in eight contests last season and only allowed 20 or more points in three games. On the offensive side of the ball, the Phoenix scored 40.1 points per game and had 10 games with more than 40 points in the 2024 season.

Week 2 BYE (8/29/2025): Due to unfortunate circumstances, week two is the open slot in the Chargers’ schedule. If a tenth game is scheduled, this will be the slot that is most likely to be filled.

Week 3 @ Marshall Co. (9/5/2025): The third week of the season starts the toughest part of Westview’s schedule from a travel aspect. The Chargers will travel roughly 600 miles in a three game span, and it all starts with 4A Marshall County. The Tigers entered into the quarterfinals last year with a perfect 12-0 record which included an overtime win over Pearl Cohn 24-21. The Tigers then fell in the rematch to Pearl Cohn in the quarterfinals 27-21. Marshall County put up just over 40 points per game last season. The defense put up six games with 10 or less points.

Week 4 @ Obion Co. (9/12/2025)*: Week four indicates the start of region play for Westview this season, and they start with an old rival in the Obion County Central Rebels.  The Chargers dismantled the Rebels last year 78-0. Obion County comes down to 3A this season after spending time in a loaded 4A classification. The Rebels will be under second year head coach Clayton Morris and lost to then 4A runner up, Melrose to finish 3-8

Week 5 @ McNairy Central (9/19/2025)*: The last game of the road trip for Westview has them headed down south to Selmer as they face off against McNairy Central. The Chargers disposed of the Bobcats with ease last year in a 56-14 win. McNairy is coming off of a 3-7 overall season and a sixth place finish in region 7AAA last season after going 2-5 in region games. The only two wins came against seventh place Scotts Hill and eighth place Liberty Tech, both of which are no longer in the region with Scotts Hill dropping to AA and Liberty not playing a varsity schedule this season.

Week 6 vs. Lausanne (9/26/2025): The final non-region game of the regular season for Westview will have them welcoming in a division two powerhouse in Lausanne. Week six starts out a favorable travel schedule for Westview after a grueling three game road trip. The Lynx from Memphis finished 7-3 last year with a second round appearance in the D2-AA playoffs. While averaging 34.8 points per game last season, two of Lausanne’s three losses came in the last minute of the game. The September 26 contest against the Lynx will be the start of Westview playing four of their last five games at Hardy Graham Stadium.

Week 7 vs. Ripley (10/3/2025)*: The final four weeks of the season will be region games for Westview this year and it starts with the Ripley Tigers. The Chargers dominated in all facets of the game with the offense hanging 49 points and the defense pitching one of their four shutouts of the season. While only averaging 17 points per game and giving up 22 points per game, Ripley was on the brink of being a playoff team last year. The Tigers would lose out on the fourth seed in the region after a tiebreaker with the next team on the schedule for Westview, Bolivar Central.

Week 8 vs. Bolivar Central (10/10/2025)*: Bolivar Central was a team with a lot of promise last season but playing in a league with a three headed monster, it’s hard to gauge expectations. After losing to Westview 48-6 in their last home game of the regular season, the Tigers sat at three wins and four losses going into the last two games of the season. Bolivar would go on to knock off Scotts Hill and Liberty to finish the year 5-4 overall and 4-3 in the region. The Tigers would also earn a playoff win going on the road against a number one seeded Sheffield team, beating them 36-32. Having five games with more than 26 points, it was the defense that would be the downfall of Bolivar Central last season.

Week 9 BYE (10/17/2025): The original bye week for Westview typically falls on the school’s fall break. This year is no different, and it will be a pivotal one as the Chargers end the season with two high impact contests.

Week 10 @ Dyersburg (10/24/2025)*: Westview squared off with Dyersburg twice last season and won each game by 20 or more points. It wasn’t a typical Dyersburg season last year as the Trojans finished with a 7-4 record and a second round playoff loss to Westview. In losses, Dyersburg averaged just under 19 points per game while giving up 44 points per game. The Trojans were still a very competitive group, and all four losses came to teams who made it to the third round of the playoffs last year. (Dyer County, Covington, Westview x2)

Week 11 vs. Covington (10/31/2025)*: Week 11 will mark one year since the game of the year in west Tennessee last year. Two giants will get a coveted rematch to the offensive shoutout that resembled the 2018 Rams vs. Chiefs game on Monday Night Football, as well as a defensive slugfest in the playoffs. Covington averaged 48 points per game last year in 13 games. In games where Westview wasn’t the opponent, they only gave up just under seven points per game. In games involving Westview, Covington 43 points per game. Even after a coaching whirlwind surrounding Jr Kirby and graduating 2025 AAA Mr. Football, Skylan Smith, still expect the Chargers from Covington to still be as good as history shows with their modified Wing-T offensive play style.

All in all, Westview’s 2025 schedule is full of a few new faces that will ultimately challenge the Chargers. With a second year head coach, a sophomore quarterback who already holds multiple records, a stout defense, and a majority of the team returning, expect big things from Westview once again in 2025.
